In short, what did we do?
For this assignment, we had to pick a painting, film still or picture and replicate it with yourself (or a classmate) as replacing actor. I did this assignment together with Hassan. I photographed and edited his tableau vivant, and he photographed mine. I edited my tableau vivant myself, as well.
Hassan chose for the film cover of 'A hounted house 2'. I chose for a still from the film 'Scarface'. Here are the original pictures:

What we did for Hassan's tableau vivant:
I set up a black background by hanging a black blanket on my wardrobe. We then set up a tripod in front of it, and closed the curtains but left them a little bit open so some light could pass through. Then I positioned Hassan in front of the black blanket, and he held up a torch above his head to achieve the shadows under his eyebrows (see the tableau vivant of Hassan). We had to make alot of pictures to get Hassan's head correctly positioned. When we were done shooting the pictures, I put the pictures on my computer and started editing them. I added a moustache, the 'March 28' text, the 'camcorder' effect and replaced Marlon Wayans with Hassan Alja Ifri. A quick timelapse can be seen below: The setup for the tableau vivant of Hassan: |
What we did for Koen's tableau vivant:
We set up a picknick table in front of a white wall in my livingroom. On the table, we put one bottle of wine and one glass of wine. We used a white wall, so that I could later edit the background as it is in the original. I put on a bow tie and a golden bracelet and put the burning sigaret in my hand. The position Al Pacino was in was difficult to replicate exactly, as I am 195cm and he is 170cm. We shot 76 photo's in a course of 4 hours to get the position and dimensions somewhat right, and in my opinion it came out pretty well. I edited on the black and white/noire effect, and blurred the wine bottle and wine glass. The background was also changed in Photoshop.
