"When good turns into bad, bad might turn into good"
Frigid is an urban tale about the eminent clash
between the good and the bad taking place in the psyche of a sole individual. They meet each other at one occasion in the film.
Why they meet is unclear to the viewer, though the ending of the film gives some
clearance.
We characterized the bad by bad living conditions (in this case, a forest) and a scary mask. The good was characterized by a good living condition, his Guy Fawkes mask and his undeniable anger for war and hatred (symbolized by the scene of him looking in awe to the terror on his TV screen).
One might argue that the tree climbing scene is the moment the fight started (the moment the good hopped down the rooftop). The latter is symbolized by letting the tree climbing scene interfere with the rooftop scene, hinting the binary are actually solitary and the struggle is actually that of one person. This is confirmed in the ending scene, where we see the bad wearing the same mask as the good underneath his own mask.
The choice of this particular story arose from the fact that we all go through a struggle in our own minds, should I do this or not, am I wrong or am I not, am I bad or am I good?
Provided on this page are besides the film, bloopers, deleted scenes and making of footage. We genuinely hope that you enjoy and that you are, even just a little bit, blown a way by the film!

evaluation
We got a good mark for our film yet we expected higher. I took it with a grain of salt, and as Eminem says: "Sometimes you gotta take a loss, and have people rub it in your face before you get made pissed off".
Throughout the production of our film, we faced several complications. We wanted to shoot at interesting and original locations to make the film more appealing to the audience. The original script involved filming on top of a flat near the woods in Breukelen and the infamous so called 'kraakpand'. When we arived at the kraakpand to film the clash of the good and the bad, we were struck by surprise when we saw an inpervadable fence. I had filmed there before and not once had I seen such security. The flat was not possible either because of safety issues.
So we had to start from scratch. We chose to film in the forest and at an isolated car park. Not the most original nor intrigueing places to shoot a film.
The story too, when showed to the audience, didn't create the expected satisfaction we (or atleast I) had hoped for. I know that our story is difficult to understand at first glance, but I just didn't want to make a basic cliché film. When viewed without interest the film might seem as having a substantial amount of err and will result in the lack of apprehension for the message we tried to convey. This was confirmed when the class gave feedback.
Maybe next time I make a film I should seek for a plot that contains more clues. Our film contained tons of metaphores and symbolic references which, once again, of course do not spark to the apprehension of some.
These were my comments in respect to the structure, plot/story markings. We also didn't get all the points for sound/text, but I can't derive that mark from the film so further annotation for the mark would be welcome (I opened a feedback form at the bottom of this section).
We enjoyed making the assignment very much, and that is what matters most!

The editing
The editing was the tough part in the process of making the film as how the film was edited is essential for the story. The film had to be mystical, freightning yet uplifting, modern and not to slow paced. It took very long to succeed in the latter, around 300 layers and 14 hours of pure dedication, but I think I managed just fine.
Next to this text, you can see all the layers in the composition. The zoom effect was achieved with a little bit of CSS coding. Here is what the code looks like: .layers { max-width:100%; height: auto; } .layers { -webkit-transition: -webkit-transform 1s; -moz-transition: -moz-transform 1s; -ms-transition: -ms-transform 1s; transition: transform 1s; } .layers:hover { -webkit-transform: scale(1.2); -moz-transform: scale(1.2); -ms-transform: scale(1.2); transform: scale(1.2); } The filming
Hassan running with the GoPro Hero 3: Black Edition
We filmed with two camera's: a GoPro and a Canon 600d. The making of was shot with Anna's mobile phone.
To stabilize the Canon shots, I put the camera on a tripod and attached a 2.5 kg weight on the bottom of it. This absorbs the shockwaves, so that the footage comes out smoother. We attached the GoPro on a GoPole and on a headmount. The footage with the headmount was used to create a first person perspective effect, to let the viewer emerge in the experience. These shots can be seen in the beginning of the film and during the confrontation. We used the GoPole to create a so called 'stable head' effect (atleast, that's what I call it). The footage was used for the running scene of the bad guy. I was inspired to do this effect by a film called 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows'. You can watch the scene in which they used the effect here. We also used the GoPole for the baseball bat shot. We attached the GoPro to the GoPole, let Hassan fling it to my head creating a first person effect seen from the baseball bat's perspective. Next to this text I have uploaded some making of stills, for you to view. The sound
We chose for a silent film, only expressing and emphasizing emotion using music. Below I have uploaded the songs used.
